What is FTP?
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the simplest and most secure way to exchange files over the Internet. The most common use for FTP is to download files from the Internet. In addition, the ability to transfer files back-and-forth makes FTP a secure and convenient method for transferring files to and from your computer and the Caset FTP site.
When downloading a file from the Internet you're actually transferring the file to your computer from another computer over the Internet. This is why the T (transfer) is in FTP.
What is an FTP Site?
Caset's FTP site is like a large filing cabinet or, better yet, a compartmentalized safe. You may set up one or more of these compartments for your files, each with a unique password. The virtual 'key' to get into Caset's FTP site is your user ID and password, which Caset will give you when you set up your FTP account. You will also be able to download the required FTP software that enables access right from the Caset site (software that is designed to transfer files back-and-forth between two computers over the Internet). There is no charge for this service.
TRY IT — IT'S EASY!
We've set up a sample page to show how FTP works. Go to ftp://ftp.caset.net.
Enter: USER NAME — casetguest PASSWORD — sample
The sample file that appears represents any file that belongs to a fictitious single password-protected customer account. Although anyone can access this guest site, if you had a unique user name and password, only you and Caset/DemandTech could access your secure site and move files back and forth.
You may download the file — brochure — by dragging the file icon from the FTP site to your computer desktop (or any other location in your computer) — or you may simply open the file by clicking on the icon. Try it — it's easy.
Uploading your file to Caset is the reverse process — drag the file from your computer to the FTP page. (For security purposes, uploading to the casetguest page is disabled.)
